72 structures razed to rubble at Banihal Sabzi Mandi

A devastating fire swept through Banihal Vegetable Market, reducing seventy-two temporary shops (kiosks) to ashes.

The fire erupted around 2 AM on Monday, in a single temporary shop within the designated vegetable and fruit market area, quickly spreading to engulf neighboring shops.

Prompt response from locals, police, fire services, and army personnel led to a joint firefighting effort to combat the flames.

Assistant Director Sahil Bandral of the Fire and Emergency Services Ramban reported that two fire tenders were deployed to quench the fire, one from Fire Station Banihal and another from Kulgam Kashmir district.

Despite their efforts, it took three hours to bring the blaze under control, which was finally subdued by 5 AM. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries reported.

Although the fire was contained, numerous tin and wooden sheds utilized by vendors suffered extensive damage. Local political leaders and the Market Association of Banihal expressed sorrow over the significant loss of property and livelihoods.

They urged the administration to provide adequate compensation and support for the affected individuals.
