A great tragedy took place in the north Kashmir town of Handwara on January 25, 1990, when 22 civilians were killed by the Border Security Forces, including Abdul Ahad Sheikh, a hawker with Tameel Irshad.
A condolence meeting was organized by Service Media Group on January 25, 2021, at Aiwan-e-Sahafat Kashmir under the chairmanship of Akash Amin Butt.
The meeting started with a recitation from the Holy Quran. KPS Editor Nazim Nazir performed the duties of the director. Meanwhile, Abdul Ahad Sheikh and Tameel Irshad presented their role in the field of journalism in a historical context and said that today’s KPS Media Group Tameel Irshad Hawkers remember him on the 31st anniversary of his martyrdom. This makes it clear that the journey of compliance began three decades ago and that Abdul Ahad Sheikh lost his life while performing his duties in this journey.
The mission of knowledge and awareness while facing many challenges continues with courage and enthusiasm, the result of which is before us today that the readers have become admirers of Tameel Irshad and this newspaper has received special acclaim at the international level and in continuing the mission, the organizers of the institution Akash Amin, Raja Mohi-ud-Din, Majeed-ul-Salam, and Firdous Rehman continue their efforts.
Arshad Mir, General Secretary of Media Association and Basic Activist of Compliance Tameel Irshad, who was present at the meeting, expressed his views paid tribute to Abdul Ahad Sheikh. Referring to history, he said that many people have been associated with this institution which has a unique identity in the history of journalism today and the shining stars of journalism have established a unique identity.
Thus, the institute is a journalistic university which is unforgettable and said that even now the administrators, managers and workers of the institute play a role in carrying forward this great mission.
He said that apart from Asiya Jeelani, Abdul Ahad Sheikh, Syed Shujaat Bukhari and other journalists lost their lives while performing their professional duties are remembered in this journalistic mission. He said that KPS deserves congratulations in this regard as it remembered the hawker Abdul Ahad Sheikh associated with his organization like every other year.
On this occasion, the General Manager of the Distribution Srinagar Mudassar Nazir paid homage to Abdul Ahad Sheikh and said that the role of hawkers in the delivery of newspapers is unforgettable.
On this occasion, Sheikh Tajmalul Islam, the editor of Ta’meel Irshad, expressed his golden views. Paying homage to the late Abdul Ahad Sheikh, he said that KPS deserves congratulations in this regard as it constantly remembers its hawkers. He said that he was shot dead by the forces while performing his professional duties.
That the journey of this institution started decades ago and which is still going on in today’s history and has succeeded in keeping the candle of knowledge alive and that is why this institution has a special status in the field of journalism.
President Akash Amin, while paying homage to Abdul Ahad Sheikh, said that the late belonged to a backward class but he had made the delivery of compliance with the instructions 32 years ago his life’s mission. During the incident that took place in Handwara, he was shot dead.
He said that many challenges had to be faced while strengthening the organization but so far we have met the editors of this mission including Raja Mohi-ud-Din, Firdous Rehman, Nazim Nazir, Sheikh Tajmal, Ejaz Ahmad Dar, Jan Muhammad, Rukhsar Bashir, Meraj Butt. Adil Bashir is continuing with the full support of Jan Mohammad Wani.
At the end, Fateha was offered for the reward of Abdul Ahad Sheikh. The meeting was attended by Akash Amin, Firdous Rehman, Sheikh Tajmal, Nazim Nazir, Ejaz Ahmed Dar, Feroz Ahmed Mir, Raja Tariq Adil, Mudassir Nazir, Tanveer Ahmed War, Adil Bashir, Meraj Butt, Firdous Qadri, Jan Muhammad Kahut, Arshad Mir and others.
