Despite mutton rates having been fixed by the administration in Jammu Kashmir, mutton sellers at various places continue to sell it at exorbitant rates.
Though the admin is taking measures to ensure that the consumers get mutton at the admin-fixed prices at 480 rupees per kilogram, however the measures seem to be falling short as many sellers continue to sell mutton at high prices.
On Friday morning, in a raid to prevent the extra charging by sellers a team of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) led by Tehsil Supply Officer (TSO) Mohammed Hashim and Enforcement team of CAPD headed by Mohammed Shafi raided several localities in the Anantnag township of South Kashmir and booked a mutton dealer for charging exorbitant rates.
They said that a Mutton seller located at Qazi Mohallah street near Lal Chowk (name withheld) in this South Kashmir township was booked for charging higher charges from consumers than the rates fixed by the administration.
The CAPD has also charged a fine of rupees 800 from two mutton sellers in the township and asked the local public to approach them if they find any mutton seller charging any penny extra than 480.
“The seller throughout these days had been charging as high as 650 rupees per kilogram, but people are equally responsible for this, they know the rates, the rich can get it even for 700 per kilo, but it makes the poor suffer,” a local told The Kashmiriyat.
