The administration has taken over a religious seminary, Jamiat-ul-Salehat, where more than 300 female students are studying, in Ashia Nagar area of Bhatindi in Jammu, reported ETV Bharat.
As per the report, the seminary (Madrassa) building has been handed over to the School Education Department by the state government.
The building has been handed over to Government Higher Secondary School Sunjwa and police personnel have been deployed at the gate of the building, while government employees have also been deployed at the madrassa.
At present, the administration has asked the current management of the madrasa to continue the Islamic education of girls studying in the madrasa.
Police and revenue department personnel have been deployed at the madrasa building.
Talking to ETV Bharat, the teachers of the madrasa said that no notice has been served to them from the administration, but suddenly Tehsildar Bahu fort, Panika Gupta along with a team of revenue department and police personnel suddenly arrived and took the madrassa in Bhatindi into government custody.
“Despite contacting them in this regard, none of the government officials agreed to say anything about the action of the revenue department,” the report added.
Girls from different districts of Jammu Kashmir are studying in the madrasa.
Official sources quoted by ETV said, the court has ordered the government to take over all madrassas affiliated to the Maulana Ali Mian Education Charitable Trust, which is accused of collecting funds for the education of children from abroad.
However, the previous management of the madrassa denied any affiliation with the said trust.
Sources further said that instead of using the collected money for the education of children, mosques are being constructed from them, due to which a case has been registered against the trust in the Jammu Crime Branch and a case is also going on in the court.
Recently, the Crime Branch Jammu raided the offices of the trust in Jammu, Kishtwar and Kashmir and seized records related to the money.
The building has been taken into government custody on the directions of the Provincial Commissioner Jammu. The divisional commissioner has issued an order to take possession of madrasa land from Jammu.
The building is now being maintained by a committee comprising officers from various departments on behalf of the district administration. This committee will be headed by SDM Jammu City South.
