The Jammu Kashmir administration has decided to withdraw a petition pending before the Jammu Kashmir High Court against certain Rohingya refugees to enable their deportation to their home country.
A Government Order issued by Secretary to Government, Achal Sethi asked Additional Advocate General Aseem Sawhney to take steps to withdraw the case.
The case titled State of Jammu Kashmir v. Abdul Hameed and others was filed by the State of Jammu Kashmir through Police Station, Satwari, Jammu under Section 561A of the Code of Criminal Procedure against Bangladeshi National and Rohingyas in the year 2018.
“The Government of Jammu Kashmir has requested me to withdraw cases filed by the government in High Court Jammu wing against Bangladeshi national and Rohingyas to enable these foreign nationals to be deported back,” AAG Aseem Sawhney confirmed to Bar & Bench.
The Supreme Court had, on Thursday, refused to pass any directions to stay the deportation of Rohingyas who are settled in J&K.
