Afghan cricket fan allegedly assaulted by aggressive Indian spectators

Afghanistan cricket fans were allegedly assaulted by a group of Indian fans in Delhi’s Arun Jaitley stadium during the ongoing World Cup.

The match was a treat for fans who turned out in large numbers to support the Men in Blue.

A video that has gone viral on social media captured an unexpected escalation during the match.

It depicted several individuals engaged in a heated argument, which escalated to physical altercations. Despite the absence of police personnel, one person attempted to diffuse the situation.

A user posted the video on X with the caption, “Fans getting an authentic Delhi experience.”

Afghanistan, batting first, managed to post a respectable total of 272-8 on a flat pitch that didn’t offer much assistance to the bowlers. Captain Hashmatullah Shahidi led by example, scoring 80 off 88 balls, with support from Azmatullah Omarzai, who contributed 62 off 69 balls. Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah was exceptional, claiming four wickets for 39 runs in his 10 overs.

In response, India swiftly reached the target in just 35 overs. Captain Rohit Sharma achieved the fastest century for India in a World Cup, taking only 63 balls to do so and surpassing Kapil Dev’s record of 72 balls. Sharma also secured the record for the most centuries in Cricket World Cups, a remarkable feat in only his third World Cup appearance. It marked his seventh century in 19 World Cup innings. Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 55, partnering with Shreyas Iyer as India comfortably sealed the match with eight wickets in hand.
