A Kashmiri Migrant Pandit organisation called ‘Reconciliation, Relief and Rehabilitation’  has, today,  asked the government to restore the statehood and special status of Jammu Kashmir.

The organisation has demanded the revocation of the abrogation of article 370 and 35(A), which provided special status to Jammu Kashmir, but the Government of India post imposing a stringent lockdown in Kashmir, abrogated the articles.

“We demand immediate restoration of statehood and special status to Jammu Kashmir. The Indian Constitution ensures the right to equality that extends to individuals, communities, religions, regions, and all social and political institutions.” Said Satish Mahaldar, chairman of the Organisation.

Further adding to it, he said, “The right to equality ensures non-discrimination on the basis of religion, caste, region, or any other social and political sub-categories. Never before a state has been downgraded. This is not done in a democracy. One can’t have a military solution to a political situation and can’t go to war with their own people.”

“The government needs to treat the people of Jammu Kashmir as their own” read the statement.

They also talked about the safeguarding the interests of backward regions and cultural and religious minorities.

Pertinently, the Central Government led by BJP has been maintaining that the revocation was done to ensure development in Kashmir, however many political groups and civil societies have come out stating that development has been at a complete halt since abrogation.
