After Ladakh Gets Division, Kargil Protests for Being ‘Neglected’

February 10

People of Kargil on Sunday staged a massive protest on Sunday against the governor’s decision of setting up the office headquarter only at Leh, after granting Ladakh the division stature.

Thousands of locals including social activists took on roads and staged a protest demonstration against the decision of not giving an equal share to the people of Kargil following the announcement from the state governor to give the separate division to the Ladakh.

The locals are demanding that the office headquarters of the new ‘division’ should be at a rotational basis.

Citing reasons that in summers the secretariat is functioning at Srinagar and from Kargil, it would be easier to operate. And in winters it is being shifted to Jammu, so from Leh, it is easier to stay connected.

On 9 February, all political parties leaders from Kargil threatened the governor that they will resign from their respective parties if their demand will not be addressed.

Meanwhile People’s Conference leader, Sajad Lone advocated rotational divisional headquarters between Leh and Kargil saying having the divisional headquarters at Karlgil will widen disparity between the twin cities of Ladakh.
