Akhnoor encounter: Security heightened in border areas of Jammu Kashmir

Following a militant attack on an army convoy in Akhnoor, the government forces have increased surveillance and operations across the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu Kashmir.

On Monday, militants opened fire on a passing military convoy in Akhnoor. The army responded swiftly, preventing any injuries.

In the aftermath, a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was launched, cornering the militants in the area. Reports indicate that three militants have been killed in the ongoing encounter.

However, an army dog also lost its life during the exchange of fire.

The attack occurred near Sunderbani in Rajouri, prompting the reinforcement of security measures across the region, which was already on high alert.

Field units are maintaining heightened vigilance, especially in areas close to the Line of Control (LoC).

Joint teams of the army, police, Special Operations Group (SOG), and CRPF have reinforced both mobile and permanent checkpoints. Security forces have also increased patrols in both civilian and rural areas of the Nowshera sector.

Over the past 11 days, there has been a noticeable uptick in militant incidents in Jammu Kashmir.

The Indian Army continues to monitor the region closely, maintaining a strong presence along the Line of Control with Pakistan.
