The former INC president took to Twitter to announce the call-off for all public rallies in West Bengal. It is noteworthy given that India has shown by far the biggest hike in Covid-19 cases with 2.61 lakh cases in one day. The second wave of Corona has proved to be devastating in India, considering it has topped the covid charts leaving the US behind.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister on Saturday, in the wake of nearly 2000 patients testing positive for Covid-19, urged to the devotees attending the Kumbh Mela that the ongoing Kumbh should only have symbolic participation now.
Although, as of now, nothing has been said in the context of the Bengal rallies, where all the contesting political parties had been campaigning hard for the elections. It is to be seen what other political parties do in view of the deadly pandemic.
Gandhi has also pressed on other political leaders to reconsider large gatherings.
He wrote on Twitter, “In view of the Covid situation, I am suspending all my public rallies in West Bengal. I would advise all political leaders to think deeply about the consequences of holding large public rallies under the current circumstances.”
