A top Pakistani Militant associated with the banned Militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) involved in the Pulwama attack was gunned down in Jammu Kashmir’s Pulwama district, a senior police officer said on Saturday.

Abu Saifullah, also known as Adnan, Ismail and Lambu and was active in the Valley since 2017, was killed along with another militant at Hangalmarg in Tral in Pulwama district.

The official said, “He was involved in several attacks including the Pulwama attack of February 14, 2019.

Adnan was a very strong aide of Rauf Azhar, Maulana Masood Azhar and Amma’s Pakistan-based top JeM.”

He was an expert in vehicle-borne IEDs, which are used regularly in Afghanistan and also in the 2019 Pulwama attack. Officials said he was also linked to the Taliban and was also close to Talha Saif and Umar, who are now dead.

A security dossier states that he tried to re-establish and strengthen the JeM organization and used Awantipora, especially Kakpora and Pampore areas of Pulwama to recruit new Militants and carry out attacks.

The official also said that the identity details of the second Militant are awaited. He said that an M-4 rifle, AK-47 rifle, a Glock pistol and another pistol have been recovered from the slain.

Police said the security forces launched a joint operation in the morning and opened fire during the cordon and search operation. Security forces have killed at least 87 Militants, including some top commanders, in Kashmir since January this year.
