Sajad Ahmed Dar alias Muniwari has been elected as the president of the Anantnag Working Journalists Association in the fresh elections held on Tuesday.
In the fresh elections, Shah Hilal of Dooru Anantnag and Fida Hussain of Bijbehara Anantnag, both senior journalists have been elected as the Vice President and the General Secretary of the association.
Sajad, as per the Association members who spoke to The Kashmiriyat, secured 27 votes against his rival Ishfaq Ahmed who secured 8 votes. Fida Hussain and Shah Hilal secured 21 and 28 votes respectively.
Several senior journalists and eminent personalities of the district participated in the event, which was widely waited for a long duration.
Sajad initially worked with the Greater Kashmir as a contributing photographer, then switched to Daily Excelsior while as Fida Hussain works with Gulistan News and Shah Hilal contributes to various national and local publications.
The three have been congratulated by various journalists and other members of the civil society including members of the Bar Association, religious bodies from the south Kashmir district.
