Anantnag town’s Historical market up in Flames, At least five buildings gutted

At least three buildings were gutted in a massive blaze in the Sherbagh market of Anantnag township in south Kashmir.

Eyewitnesses told The Kashmiriyat that a massive fire erupted from a residential structure in the Anantnag market around midnight and spread to the nearby structures.

Locals reached the spot trying to douse off the flames and prevent the centuries-old market known as the feminine market of the township, but the fire spread to the nearby structures swiftly.

For decades, the market has been the prime shopping center for women of the township and the entire district.

The Local Police and Fire brigade vehicles immediately rushed to the spot located just adjacent to the Jamia Masjid of Islamabad.

“The fire could not be controlled before it had damaged at least five structures,” they said.

A Police official confirmed to The Kashmiriyat that five buildings were gutted in the fire incient.

The immediate cause of the fire could not be known
