Another South Kashmir Youth Joins Militancy

November 03

The Government Forces despite launching a massive crackdown against Militants in Jammu Kashmir have largely failed to keep a check at the Militant recruitment as more local youth continue to pick up arms.

Despite having killed more than 230 Militants the last year, this year Militant recruitment has crossed the highest number in the last ten years as it stands at 175 in the first ten months of 2018.

The Indian Security Forces have made efforts to contain Militancy as the Local Police and the Indian Army has been asking the local youth to stay away from Militancy, In fact some youth have given up arms and returned to their families, however the overall picture continues to remain grim, as Kashmir remains on the edge.

More youth continue to take up Arms creating a vicious cycle of violence, with mass funerals, civilian killings and new recruitments.

One more youth from Kulgam District of South Kashmir has now posed with a gun, which has become a routine for new age Militants to announce their entry into the Militant ranks.

Posing with an Ak 47 Aijaz Ahmed Naikoo Son of Mohammed Iqbal Naikoo, a resident of Chimmer Shareef in South Kashmir’s Kulgam District has announced his entry into the Militant ranks.

Aijaz Ahmed Naikoo who is 22 years old hails from a poor family and he had left his home a week back and on Friday, his photo wielding a gun appeared over the social networking sites.

Official stats reveal that the shelf life of a Kashmiri Militant has reduced from 2-3 Years to 4-7 months, despite this harsh reality, more and more local youth continue to join the Militant ranks.

Militancy this year has seen a huge rise after the three encounter that were held on a single day on April 01 in South Kashmir ending with the death of 13 local Militants.

The Himalayan region has seen large number of youth picking up arms since an armed insurgency began against the Indian rule in 1988.

Since their partition both India and Pakistan have fought three wars claiming the region in its entirety. (The Kashmiriyat)
