Anti CAA Protests- Pinjra Tod Artists Denied Bail by Delhi Court

Two Artists from Pinjra Tod, a women’s collective were on Thursday denied bail by a court in New Delhi for their alleged role in New Delhi Violence during the Anti-CAA, NRC Protests that hit entire India in the early part of 2020.

The Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat has rejected the bail of the two students of Jawaharlal Nehru University students, on the ground that there was no merit in the applications, the wire reportred

The court ha further said that the Chargesheet is yet to be filed adding that the investigation into the incident is still pending.

Narwal and Kalita, the duo who are the frontline activists and theatre artists with Pinjra Tod have been under detention since May after being booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code including rioting, unlawful assembly and attempt to murder.

The case is related to February 24, when Communal clashes had broken out in northeast Delhi on February 24 between the supporters of citizenship law and protesters spiraled out of control that left 53 people dead and around 200 injured.

The duo have been accused of “poisoning the mindset of Muslim community and instigating them to create an adverse, unlawful situation in the city.”

The State has accused the duo of visiting the protest site from January 15 onwards at Seelampur, Delhi, where they were allegedly organising the violent protests in the northeast district.

Dozens of students, activists have been under detention post the Anti-CAA Protests in New Delhi.
