‘Arrested 15 Days After His Wedding’- Husband in Jail, 25-year-old Kulgam Woman Kills Self

A 25-year-old woman was allegedly found hanging inside her house in the Churath area of Kulgam district in South Kashmir.

Sources told The Kashmiriyat that on Sunday morning, a woman (name withheld) ended her life by hanging herself inside her room in the Churath area of Qaziund in Kulgam.

They said that the woman aged 25 was rushed to the hospital when the family members found her hanging, but she was declared brought dead on her arrival at the hospital.

Locals from her native village speaking to The Kashmiriyat said that the woman only has her mother-in-law and a younger sister-in-law at her in-law’s house. And that her husband’s younger brother works outside Kashmir. He is the sole bread-earner to the family, as per the Locals.

They also said that she had gone to meet her husband on Saturday at the District Jail in the Kehribal area of Anantnag. However, she was not allowed to meet him.

Married barely for two weeks, her husband was picked up on December 26 under the Anti-terror law and has been languishing in jail since 26 December last year after he was arrested and has been in jail since.

The forces had alleged that he was a Militant and was arrested along with his other associate in the Jammu region.

On 26 December, the police claimed that based on reliable inputs regarding the militant Movement in the Narwal area, the forces laid a special check-point at the Narwal area at about 17:30 hrs on Friday.

The SOG team chased a vehicle and apprehended two suspects onboard namely Rayees Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Hassan Dar, resident of Churath, Qazigund and Subzar Ahmad Sheikh, son of Ghulam Ahmad Sheikh, resident of Ashmuji, Kulgam.

The Police registered a case vide FIR No. 359/20 under Sections 120-B, 121, 121-A, 122 of IPC, 7/25 of A.Act, 18, 20, 38 & 39 of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) 1967.

On Saturday, The Kashmiriyat reported that a woman carrying her child in her arms staged a protest in Srinagar demanding the release of her husband under detention for last three years.

Identified as Saba, a resident of Batamaloo area in Srinagar, she also attempted suicide, but was prevented by the cops from jumping into Jhelum river.
