As Covid Cases Grow, Several Countries Impose Travelling Restriction on India

Given the grim situation in India after the rise in positive cases in the second wave of Corona, many countries have imposed restriction on travel to and from India.

On Monday, United Kingdom announced that India has been put in its travel ‘red list’. The ban comes in effect this Friday. The announcement came in after 103 cases of a new variant of Coronavirus first detected in India, were recorded.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), US stated that because of the current situation in India, even the fully vaccinated travelers maybe at risk for getting and spreading Covid-19 variants and should avoid all travel to India.

It says further, “If you must travel to India, get fully vaccinated before travel. All travelers should wear a mask, stay six feet from others, avoid crowds, and wash their hands.”

Hong Kong government activated an “emergency circuit breaker” on April 18 and banned passenger flights from India for fourteen days, beginning April 20.

Singapore’s Ministry of Health in a statement, on April 20, said that all travelers from India will have to serve an additional seven day Stay-Home Notice at their place of residence, apart from the fourteen day quarantine at a dedicated facility. This comes in effect from Thursday.

The UAE has banned travel from the country for 10 days. The travel ban which comes into effect from April 24, states that the passengers traveling from India will not be allowed to enter the UAE unless they have spent 14 days in other countries.

The departure flights will continue to operate and the ban will not he extended to the UAE citizens, diplomatic passport holders and the official delegations.

Canada has barred all passenger flights from Pakistan and India for 30 days, the ban took effect on April 22, midnight. Although cargo flights from the region will continue.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has announced that it will stop almost one third of the flights coming from India, according to a report by The Guardian.

The report said that Travellers from high risk countries, including India, will be required to have a PCR Covid-19 test 72 hours prior to leaving the last port they are in before travelling to Australia.

Pakistan has imposed a two week ban on travellers from India, according to a statement released by National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC).

“The forum decided to place India in the list of Category C countries for two weeks. There will be a ban on inbound passengers coming from India via air and land routes,” said the statement.

South Africa, Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Comoros, Mozambique, Brazil, Peru, Chile are among the few other countries enlisted in the category.

Oman has banned all incoming travellers from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh from April 24 onwards. Also, the travellers who have entered these countries in the last 2 weeks will not be allowed in Oman, either.
