As Liquor Shops opened in Jammu on Wednesday, chaos and confusion gripped most parts of Jammu as huge queues were witnessed outside the liquor shops in the district.

Eyewitnesses said that a month after the lockdown was imposed, the covid protocols went for a toss and a large number of people were seen lined up outside wine shops.

A report also suggests that people waited for several hours outside the shops to get their turn to get alcohol. “Some people are taking alcohol to forget those relatives who have died because of Covid 19, I have taken vaccination, I keep on getting tested daily,” a man lined up outside the wine shop said.

“Today I could not stop myself, I want to enjoy as i am not scared of the virus, it has been more than two months, today I just want to enjoy myself,” said another buyer.

A Large number of people were seen as a beeline in the Akhnoor area of Jammu at liquor stores where social distancing norms were not being followed.

Jammu has become the first district in the UT to register over 1000 deaths due to Covid-19 and a majority of these fatalities have taken place in May alone.
