Assaulted over property dispute, Anantnag man succumbs at Srinagar hospital; Family seeks justice

A family from Chri-Larno Kokarnaga area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district Tuesday arrived at Srinagar’s Press Enclave seeking stringent punishment for what they called ‘murderers’ of the head of their family.

In order to attract the attention of scribes, they had brought with them the dead body of the family head who according to succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday morning after remaining admitted at SKIMS for 9 days.

While talking to reporters, Bilal Ahmed Dar, one of the sons of the deceased man Ali Muhammad Dar said that they were attacked and assaulted by a group of ‘goons’ on the night of 22 July.

“Over 25 people barged into our house, smashed windowpanes and dragged us out. They assaulted us. Our father sustained head injuries. Since then he was undergoing treatment at SKIMS and this morning breathed his last,” Bilal Ahmed said.

The rift between the two neighbouring families had arisen out of a dispute involving a patch of land.

Bilal added that some assailants have been arrested by the police but the majority of them are still free.

“We demand the arrest of all the assailants and seek stringent punishment for them,” he said and appealed to concerned authorities to take immediate action against all the assailants.

The other family members alleged that the assailants have let loose a reign of terror in the village and nobody bothers to question their authority. [KNT]
