Beaten by husband on Eid day for Dowry, Woman from Baramulla battles for life in Srinagar hospital

A family on Friday staged a protest in Pattan’s Warpora area demanding justice for a 30-year-old, a victim of domestic violence.

The 30-year-old, married in the Kokathal area in Baramulla was wounded after being beaten by her husband in the Kreeri in the Baramulla district.

Family members of the woman speaking to The Kashmiriyat said that the woman who has a young daughter was tortured by her in-laws for dowry for several years over the issue of dowry.

On Eid Day, her family members said, that she was beaten inhumanely by her husband over the same issue of dowry after which she was taken to the SDH Kreeri Baramulla from where she was referred to Baramulla District Hospital. “The Doctors there referred to SKIMS in Soura from where they informed the family members of the woman,” Mashooq Ahmed Dar, a family member of the woman told The Kashmiriyat.

According to the hospital, the 30-year-old has received critical injuries on her head and is battling for her life in ICU at SKIMS Soura. “Her blood pressure dropped to 60 and we are worried that she may not survive. She is in a state of coma right now,” a doctor said.

The Doctor said that she has several bruises on her body.

He said that she had complained of mental and physical torture for several years and that they had married four years ago. “They have two daughters, the eldest is two and a half years and the youngest is nine months old,” he said.

The Police have registered a case in this regard and has taken up the investigation.
