Surendra Singh, a MLA of Bharatiya Janata Party from Uttar Pradesh on Saturday said that the parents of young women must imbibe good values in them to stop incidents of rape.
“Such incidents can be stopped only with sanskar [culture and values] and not with shashan [governance] or talwar [sword],” Singh added that it was the duty of the parents to imbibe good values in their children.
“The government’s job is to protect the people but it is also the responsibility of parents to teach children polite behaviour and manners,” he said. “Our country can become beautiful with the combination of sanskar and sarkar [government].”
“I am also a teacher besides a legislator. Such incidents can only be stopped with the help of good values and not governance and violence. Parents should ensure to instill good values in their young daughters.”
He added: “It is the government and the values that will together make the country beautiful and prevent such cases”, the MLA said after Shiv Sena’s remark “Jungle Raj, not Ram Rajya”.
