On November 11, BJP supporters allegedly ransacked a mosque in the Jamua village of East Champaran after the Vijay procession was taken out after the NDA’s success in the Bihar assembly elections.
Three people suffered head injuries, they were rushed to the hospital for treatment. It is alleged that several vehicles were also vandalized during this period, during the demolition the microphone of the mosque and its gates were broken.
Jamua has a small Muslim population.

They have 20 to 25 families here and around 500 Hindu families. Jamua falls under the Dhaka Legislative Assembly, where BJP leader Pawan Kumar Jaiswal won after the counting of votes on November 10.
Mazhar Alam, the mosque’s caretaker, said that the mosque was pelted with stones during the prayers.
He told The Wire, ‘There were about 500 people in the procession, who were celebrating the victory of BJP candidate Pawan Jaiswal in the assembly elections. When they came near the mosque, they started pelting stones. They broke the mike of the gate, the mosque, shouting the slogan of Jay Shree Ram.
He said that this mosque is one of the oldest mosques in the area. He alleged, ‘They were telling us, you people go away from here. Your country is not. ‘ He said, “Muslim families are scared now but the administration has assured us that they are with us and they will not let anyone harm us.”
Dhaka police station SHO Abhay Kumar told media, “The incident took place on Wednesday evening. BJP supporters took out a victory procession in the area, when they reached near the mosque, they shouted slogans through the mike. Outside the mosque, a shopkeeper asked them to close the mike, as Maghrib was offering prayers inside the mosque, but he did not listen to anyone and during this time there was an argument between the two sides, due to which the people involved in the procession at the mosque started throwing stones.”
He said that an FIR has been registered in the case and so far two people have been arrested in the case
