Blast Inside Afghanistan Mosque Kills 12 People

The Afghan police confirmed that a bomb exploded in a mosque in Kabul during Friday prayers, killing 12 people including the Imam.

The explosion took place in Shakar Dara district, situated in the north of Kabul. The eyewitnesses claim that at least fifteen people have been wounded including one child.

The police spokesman Ferdaws Faramarz has said that the police investigation suggests that a Sunni Imam who follows the Hanafi school of thought, Mufti Noman may have been the target.

Mufti Noman who is a Sunni Muslim, as per reports is vocal against the American atrocities in Afghanistan and also a critic of the Taliban and other extremist organizations including ISIS.

The explosion took place on the second day of the three-day ceasefire announced by the Taliban to mark the occasion of Eid. The Afghan government had agreed to abide by the truce.

So far, no one has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The news of the attack comes right after a few days of bombing a school in Afghanistan. The incidents have shown a significant surge in violence after the US begins to withdraw its troops from the country.

Zabiullah Mujahid, the Taliban spokesman has condemned the incident and denied any insurgent connection. He has also accused Afghanistan’s intelligence agency for being responsible for the attack.

Muhibullah Sahebzada, one of the worshippers, told that he had just arrived at the mosque building when the explosion happened. He said he saw smoke fill up the place right after the explosion and saw several dead bodies as children were screaming.

Sahebzada said that it appeared to him as if the explosive device was hidden inside the pulpit at the front of the door of the mosque itself. “I was afraid of a second explosion so I came immediately to my home,” he said.
