Blog Documenting Killings in Kashmir Since 1988 Taken Down

Google has removed a Blogspot maintaining data of killings, historical events, and human rights violations since the eruption of the Militancy in Kashmir in the late 80s.

Named Kashmiri Killings available at http://kashmirikillings.blogspot.com the blog has suddenly gone missing without any prior notice to the blog admins, Basit, an admin of the blog told The Kashmiriyat.

“We were sent no prior notice, today, we tried to update the blog, however, the page went missing from the internet,” Basit told The Kashmiriyat.

This is not the first time that voices from Kashmir have been censored. Earlier, the Twitter handle of Stand with Kashmir was suspended by Twitter from its platform for the second time in less than two months. Stand with Kashmir is an amalgam of Kashmiris in the diaspora. The globally renowned group is highlighting the Human Rights violations taking place across the Kashmir valley.

In 2019, Facebook also removed a post from the Facebook page of The Kashmiriyat providing a detailed list of Militant killings till November 2018, Facebook said that the post does not follow the community standards set by the Social Media platform, the post however was restored after a span of eight hours.

The Twitter handles of various pro resistance groups throughout India have been suspended by Twitter which includes journalists and Rights activists.

Kashmiri Killings had been maintaining the accounts of all the killings and other human rights violations that took place in Kashmir, since 1865.
