Broadband Internet, Calling Sevices Restored in Kashmir, Restrictions Continue

The Cellphone calling and broadband internet has been restored in the Kashmir valley after a security review meeting on Friday.

Around 10 PM, the communication services were restored as the situation remained peaceful in the valley in the aftermath of the death of the Senior most Hurriyat leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani.

The restrictions on public gatherings will remain in place in most parts of the Kashmir valley, while mobile internet services have not been restored as of yet.

Geelani (91), died at his home in Srinagar on Wednesday night after a prolonged illness.

He was buried at a graveyard near his residence in the Hyderpora area of the Srinagar district. Following his death, restrictions were imposed in Kashmir as a precautionary measure.

Roads leading to Geelani’s residence in Hyderpora remained sealed with barricades put up to stop public movement. The government forces have been deployed in large numbers elsewhere to maintain law and order.
