Case registered against News anchor for attempting to outrage religious sentiments

News anchor Navika Kumar who is associated with Times Now has been named in a First Information Report (FIR) for allegedly attempting to outrage religious emotions, weeks after then-BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma made insulting statements about Prophet Mohammad on her show.

According to a news report by News Laundry, the FIR, which was registered after a complaint by Maharashtra’s Muslim cleric also names Sharma.

The BJP spokesperson was suspended by the party on 5 June for her controversial remarks against the Prophet Mohammad after which she alleged that she had been receiving death threats over the incident.

Pertinently Navika Kumar was moderating the debate in which Prophet was insulted by the BJP spokesperson. The news anchor let her proceed with the insulting remarks when she is known for shutting others down and never letting them speak.

The news reporter Kumar had come to Sharma’s defense at the time and stated: “Nobody has the right to threaten anyone. Death threats to Nupur Sharma (are) unacceptable. As a mature democracy debate is essential but crossing the line (is) not ok for anyone.”
