The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) on Wednesday condemned the inclusion of sexist stereotypes in the NCTE textbook which reflects the Brahmanical worldview of women. It alleged that the government is setting up a dangerous precedent of saffronizing educational literature and institutions. SFI said that a chapter titled ‘Vasuki ka Prashna’ in an NCTE textbook was introduced. The chapter indulges in creating and upholding a sexist stereotype of a meek and docile housewife whose only duty is to serve the version, embodied in the alleged figure of the Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar’s wife Vasuki. Delhi Police Arrests Two for Allegedly Planning to Kill Pro-Kashmir Activist

The Delhi Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested two gunmen who were allegedly planning to kill an activist who often speaks on issues related to Kashmir. The Delhi Police has not revealed the identity of the activist. Addressing the press, the Delhi Police said that the duo has been arrested from RK Puram in New Delhi and are being interrogated by Delhi Police's Special cell. India Records a Single Day Spike of 16,000 Covid Cases

According to Union Health Ministry data India recorded a single day spike of over 16,000 COVID-19 cases for the third day in a row on Saturday, pushing the infection tally to 1,10,79,979, while the recoveries surged to 1,07,63,451. The data updated on Saturday early morning showed a total of 16,488 novel coronavirus cases were reported in a day, while the death count rose to 1,56,938 with 113 new fatalities. With active case count at 1,59,590, which comprises 1.44 per cent of the total infections. The number of recoveries reached 1,07,63,451, which translates to a national COVID-19 recovery rate of 97.14 per cent and the case fatality rate stands at 1.42 per cent.

India Extends International Flight Ban till 31 March

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in a circular on Friday announced the ban on International commercial flights till 31 March. The ban on scheduled overseas flights was to end after an eleven-month gap on 28 February 2021. The circular mentioned that the dedicated cargo flights and flights under the bilateral air bubble pacts with select countries will continue to operate. The 27 countries currently under this bilateral air bubble pact with the government of India are Afghanistan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Canada, Ethiopia, France, Germany, Iraq, Japan, Kenya, Kuwait, Maldives, Nepal, Netherlands, Nigeria, Oman, Qatar, Rwanda, Seychelles, Tanzania, Ukraine, the UAE, the UK, Uzbekistan and the US.
