A day after Income Tax (IT) officials conducted searches and served notices to 14 top commission agents in Punjab, the Federation of Arhtiya Associations of Punjab on Sunday announced the closure of all Mandis in the state from 22 to 25 December as a mark of protest against the IT action, the Quint reported. The federation’s president, Vijay Kalra, alleged that action by the IT department was a “pressure tactic” as they have been supporting the protesting farmers who have been demanding a roll back of the three Agricultural bills passed by the BJP-Led Government. earlier, Income tax officials raided the premises of several arhtiyas, including Kalra, on Friday and Saturday. A Muslim man was beaten by a mob in Bihar over suspicion of cattle theft near state capital Patna on Wednesday. According to a report on NDTV all the accused were arrested immediately. Six people who were named in the complaint have been arrested, the police said. The incident took place early Wednesday morning in Phulwarisharif near Patna. The victim, Muhammad Alamgir, was thrashed after he was seen untying a buffalo from a cattle shed at around 3 am. A person who was with Alamgir managed to escape. Slaughter of cows, considered sacred in Hinduism, is illegal in most of India and several vigilante groups take to enforcing the law themselves, often violently. In most cases, the victims of the mob beatings are Muslim.

Supreme Court Refuses to Hear Appeals on Roshni Act

The Supreme Court of India on Thursday refrained from examining the appeals related to Roshni Land Act till the Jammu Kashmir (J&K) High Court decides the review petition filed against its October 9 judgment on the case. The order was passed by a three-judge Bench in a batch of appeals filed against the judgment of the High Court ordering a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the alleged scam. The Supreme Court said that the Union Territory of Jammu Kashmir and various beneficiaries under the Roshni Act have filed review petitions against the High Court judgment which is pending before the High Court. 25-Year-Old Dalit Beaten to Death for Touching Food of Upper Caste People in MP

A 25-year-old dalit man was thrashed to death by two upper-caste men for allegedly touching the food that was served at a feast in Chhatarpur area of Madhya Pradesh. According to a report published in Times of India, the accused Bhoora Soni and Santosh Pal had called the victim, Devraj Anuragi, to clean up after a party in Kishanpur village. The two got angry when they noticed Anuragi serving food to himself and started beating him up with sticks due to which Anuragi died later. Both the accused are absconding and have been booked for murder. “They will be caught soon,” the report quoted Chhatarpur SP Sachin Sharma as saying.

The Delhi Police on Monday claimed that it had arrested five “suspected militants” after a brief exchange of fire in the Shakarpur area of East Delhi. The ANI Quoted Pramod Kushwaha, DCP of the Delhi Police Special Cell as saying, “Two of them are from Punjab, three are from Kashmir. Weapons and other incriminating materials were recovered.” The Delhi Police claimed the five suspects were backed by “Pakistan’s ISI for ‘narco-terrorism'”.
