Indian Army Likely to Get Drones to Monitor Militant Activity

September 07 Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday said the government will soon frame and implement a drone policy and go for a technological upgradation to monitor militant activities, specially in Jammu and Kashmir, Gujarat and Assam. The Minister said the new policy will unveil comprehensive regulations on the use of drones which are being increasingly inducted into the Indian security establishment to monitor sensitive and vulnerable areas prone to security risks, including thick and dense jungles in Maoist-affected areas where physical monitoring is extremely difficult. 23 Missing after Boat Capsizes in Assam

September 05 One person drowned and 23 others are missing after a motorised country boat, carrying about 36 passengers, capsized in the Brahmaputra river near here on Wednesday, an official said. Twelve people swam to safety, and State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) and NDRF personnel have recovered one body so far, Kamrup Deputy Commissioner Kamal Kumar Baishya said, adding that rescue operations were underway. The incident occurred when the engine of the boat developed a snag and hit a rock near the bank of the Ashwaklanta Temple around 2 pm, he said. Only 22 passengers had valid tickets and the boat was overcrowded, with 18 motorcycles on it, Baishya, who was supervising the rescue operations at the site, said. Former IPS Officer Critical of Modi Arrested

September 05 Former Gujarat IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt was today arrested over a 1998 case. Bhatt was taken into custody following directives from the Gujarat High Court. The Gujarat CID, which took Bhatt into custody, has also detained six other people, including two former police officers. They are all being questioned. In 1998, Sanjiv Bhatt was serving as the DCP of Banaskantha when he was accused of trying framing a lawyer in a fake narcotics case. 16 Year old Young Boy Lynched in Indian Capital On Suspicion Of Being Thief

September 04 A teenager who had entered a house to allegedly steal valuables, was lynched by locals in northwest Delhi's Mukundpur in the early hours on Tuesday, following which three people were arrested, the police said. Deputy commissioner of police (Northwest) Aslam Khan said the 16-year-old boy had entered a house to steal valuables, but was caught by the owner and beaten to death by some locals. A case has been registered at the Bhalaswa Dairy police station in this regard. Three of the accused have been arrested while three others are absconding, the police official said. (PTI)

Cow attacks BJP MP in Gujarat, is critical

September 01 BJP MP from Gujarat Liladher Vaghela suffered broken ribs and has been admitted to the ICU of Apollo Hospital after a stray cow attacked him. Reportedly, the Lok Sabha MP from Patan was out for a walk when the cow attacked him outside his residence in Gandhinagar. The 83-year-old MP is said to be critical after he sustained head injuries, in addition to broken ribs. Prior to being elected to Parliament, Vaghela had served as a cabinet minister in Gujarat. He is a member of the Standing Committee on Water Resources, Consultative Committeeof the Ministry of Rural Development, Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water and Sanitation and Railway Convention Committee.
