US Congress Raise Concern Stating “Jammu Kashmir Situation Not Normal”

The United States Congress foreign affairs committee after receiving a bipartisan letter on Kashmir expressed their concern saying normalcy is yet to return in Jammu Kashmir after a year of abrogation. The Chairman of the committee Eliot L. Engel and ranking member Michael T. UN Experts Call for Urgent Action to Remedy “Alarming” Human Rights Situation in Jammu Kashmir

On the first anniversary of the Abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu Kashmir, UN Human Rights experts called on India and international communities to take urgent action against the violation of human rights in the territory. The experts addressing the press said that “Urgent action is needed, if India will not take any genuine and immediate steps to resolve the situation, meet their obligations to investigate historic and recent cases of human rights violations and prevent future violations, then the international community should step up.” On the 5th of August 2019, the Indian Parliament revoked the special status of Jammu Kashmir which followed a widespread condemnation across the world. Pakistan Foreign Minister, Shah Mehmood Qureshi warned the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which is led by Saudi Arabia to stop their excuses on the convening of a meeting of its Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) on Jammu Kashmir. In a talk show, Mr. Qureshi said, “I am once again respectfully telling OIC that a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers is our expectation. Prominent Global Organisations Condemn Qazi Shibli’s Detention

The Editor of The Kashmiriyat, Qazi Shibli, is still under detention for the past 6 days. Qazi, on Thursday received a call at around 2:15 PM, from the Cyber Police Station, Srinagar, summoning him for questioning. The next day, Friday, Qazi Shibli presented himself before the Cyber Police and was detained under unknown charges, after eight hours of ‘questioning’. On 1st August, Shibli was taken to PCR hospital for reasons not known to the family or his organization. He was later shifted from Sher Ghari police station to Central Jail, Srinagar. He has now been booked under 107 CrPc, a law permitting the police to arrest anyone on suspicion.
