Girl injured after hit by unknown vehicle in Shopian village

A girl was injured after she was hit by an unknown load carrier in Zainapora area of South Kashmir's Shopian district on Tuesday. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the girl identified as Munaza Javeed daughter of Javeed Ahmad Bhat of Moman Arwani was hit by a load carrier near Zainapora. He said that the girl received grievous injuries and was shifted to SDH Zainapora, where from she was referred to GMC Anantnag for advanced treatment. Meanwhile, police have taken cognizance of the incident and started investigation—(KNO)

Months after being reinstated, Shah Faesal withdraws petition challenging Article 370 abrogation

IAS officer Shah Faesal has withdrawn his petition from the Supreme Court challenging the Presidential order to scrap Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, Bar & Bench reported. Faesal was among 23 petitioners who had challenged the Centre’s decision to abrogate provisions of Article 370. Shah Faesal’s decision to withdraw the petition comes months after he was taken back into the Indian Administrative Service in April this year and appointed Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Culture. Faesal resigned from service in protest in 2019 to float his own political party in Jammu and Kashmir. However, his resignation had never been accepted by the government and he withdrew it later. In a first, Muslim carpenter gets five year jail term under UP’s ‘Anti-conversion Law’

In the first case of conviction under the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021, a court in Amroha has served a five-year jail term to a 26-year-old carpenter. Additional Director General of Police, Prosecution, Ashutosh Pandey, confirmed that since the introduction of the new law in December 2021, the conviction by the Amroha court was the first under the new law. SC rejects plea seeking SIT probe into killing of Kashmiri Pandits

The Supreme Court on Monday rejected a plea seeking a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe in the targeted killings of Kashmiri Pandits in Kashmir in 1990. The matter is currently being heard by a bench headed by SK Kaul, News 18 reported. The plea was filed by Ashutosh Taploo, whose father Tika Lal Taploo was killed by in Srinagar in 1989. Taploo's killing triggered panic among Kashmiri Pandits who started leaving the Valley and was also followed by a series of target killings of Kashmiri Pandit leaders and activists in Kashmir. The apex court allowed the petitioner to withdraw the plea and seek other alternative remedial measures available in law.
