Newborn found abandoned in washroom of Sopore hospital

On Wednesday a new-born baby was found abandoned in sub-district hospital Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district even as police have registered a case in this regard. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that an unidentified woman delivered a female baby and left it abandoned in the washroom of the hospital during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday. "The parents of the baby couldn’t be located till now, while the baby has been laid to rest and an inquiry into matter has been initiated,” he said. Earth's average surface temperature in 2022 tied with 2015 as the fifth warmest year on record, according to an analysis by US space agency NASA, which termed the situation as "alarming". The global temperatures in 2022 were 1.6-degree Fahrenheit (0.89-degree Celsius) above the average for NASA's baseline period (1951-1980), scientists from NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) in New York reported. "This warming trend is alarming. An avalanche hit a village in the Gurez sector in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, and officials issued an avalanche warning for 12 more districts in the region. The minimum temperature recorded a slight drop at most places but hovered above normal even as fog engulfed parts of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, officials said. A meteorological department official here told GNS that fog significantly reduced visibility in Srinagar, Qazigund, and Jammu. Though the trial is expected to start in neighbouring Punjabs Pathankot, as ordered by the Supreme Court in 2018, the crime branch submitted its charge sheet under various sections including those related to murder, rape, kidnapping and wrongful confinement before chief judicial magistrate in Kathua. State Investigation Unit (SIU) of police on Thursday carried out searches at various locations in frontier North Kashmir's Kupwara district, officials said. They told GNS that sleuths alongside Naib Tehsildar reached Mirnag in Manzhar area and conducted searches of a house. Similarly the team alongside DySP DAR Kupwara reached Kanibakh Batpora and conducted searches at another house. The team also raided a residential house at Salkoot Kupwara, in presence of Naib Tehsildar Kupwara and DO PP Bazaar Kupwara. The team alongside SHO Kralpora raided a house at Babapora.
