Gloom Prevails as Valley Mourns Shopian Killings

April 03 The Kashmir Valley has shut down for the third consecutive day against the killings of 12 Militants and 4 Civilians in South Kashmir. Life has come to a standstill throughout the valley as Troopers are patrolling the streets in most parts of the valley. Down in South Kashmir’s Islamabad (Anantnag) clashes had been witnessed in many localities including Seer Hamdan, Nambal, KP Road areas, Sarnal, Harnag and Batengoo on Monday. So today, strict restrictions have been imposed in many areas of the district. April 03 Rains lashed Kashmir Valley on Tuesday bringing an end to a dry spell of weeks together. "Rains have brought much relief to the farmers, we have been waiting for rains," a farmer told The Kashmiriyat. The Weather is likely to remain wet tomorrow as per weather reports.

4 Army Men, 1 Major Injured in Pakistani Firing

April 03 (Image Used for Representation) 5 Indian Army men including an Army major were wounded in heavy firing by Pakistani Soldiers along the Line of Control that divides two sides of Kashmir. As Per Indian Army, The Pakistani Army resorted to heavy firing with mortar shells on Indian forward posts along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district. The Indian Army effectively retaliated in equal measures by firing with small arms on targeted Pakistani posts, the Indian Army said on Tuesday. Speaking on the ceasefire violation, an Army officer said, "Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked and indiscriminate firing from 0700 hours along the Line of Control (LoC) in Krishna Ghati sector using small arms, automatics and mortars". Kangan Youth Critically Injured During Protests

April 02 A youth was injured on Monday after  Police chased protesters in Kangan near Main market Kangan district in Central Kashmir. Witnesses said that a youth namely Gowhar Ahmad Rather,was a part of group that had assembled near main market Kangan monday evening. According to initial reports, the injured youth was rushed to Kangan Sub-district hospital for initial treatment. Doctors , reportedly have referred the injured to SKIMS Soura hospital for advanced treatment. April 02 Former chief minister and opposition leader Omar Abdullah on Monday said that Mehbooba Mufti has accepted her irrelevance today by not being in region’s summer capital Srinagar despite prevailing tense situation. “It’s amazing how @MehboobaMufti has accepted her irrelevance in Kashmir today. More than 24 hours after 3 fierce encounters & numerous deaths she still hasn’t arrived back in Srinagar,” Omar wrote on Twitter. In another tweet, Omar wrote: “In fact Gov Vohra arrived in Srinagar first thing in the morning while @MehboobaMufti was happily ensconced in her plush Delhi bungalow.”

Aerial Firing in Kulgam, Hurriyat Calls for Shutdown tomorrow

April 02 A CRPF Personnel fired shots in the air to disperse protesters in Damhal Hanjipora area of Southern Kashmir's Kulgam District on Monday. The Protesters gathered outside of a Local Assembly member and tried to march towards his house, Sources told The Kashmiriyat. However the troopers deployed fired in the air to disperse the protesters. Meanwhile Separatist leadership has called for a shutdown on Tuesday to mourn the killings of Militants and civilians. The Hurriyat has also said that it will march to Shopian on Wednesday to express solidarity with the Shopian people. Rail services and Educational Institutes will also remain shut tomorrow as a precautionary measure.

April 02 Government Forces on Monday fired in the air to disperse stone throwing crowds near Khanabal - Pahalgam Chowk in Islamabad, South Kashmir. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that youth threw stones on troopers deployed in the area, who in return fired in the air to disperse the protesters. The Clashes were going on, when this report was filed.

April 02 Clashes Erupted between Government Forces and Youth in many areas of South Kashmir's Islamabad (Anantnag) District. Clashes have erupted at Nambal crossing KP Road Anantnag, Harnaag and Seer Hamdan areas of Islamabad (Anantnag). The Protesters assembled near the road and threw stones on troopers deployed in the area. The Troopers fired tear smoke shells on the protesters to disperse them. The clashes were however going on when this report was filed.
