December 24 The Kashmir valley witnessed the coldest night of the season as the night temperatures dipped to Minus 6.8 in the Summer capital of Jammu Kashmir. A MET Department official told that the cold weather conditions are likely to continue for another four to five days with weather mostly likely to remain dry. Pahalgam and Gulmarg recorded minus 7.2 and minus 6.8 while the minimum was minus 14.7 in Leh and minus 15.2 degrees Celsius in Kargil. Jammu city recorded 5.3, Katra 4.8, Batote minus 1.4, Bannihal minus 3 and Bhaderwah minus 2.1 degrees Celsius

December 22 Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday claimed that the six militants killed in a gunfight with the forces in Arampora village of Tral were involved in several attacks on ‘security establishments’. A police spokesman in a statement said, “based on a credible input about the presence of militants in Arampora area of Tral, a cordon and search operation was launched by forces in the area today morning. “As the searches were going on, the search party was fired upon by the militants. Minor Girl Dead, Eight Others Injured in a Road Accident in Kupwara

December 22 Rayees Shah An eight year old girl died in a road mishap in Thali area in Machil of North Kashmir’s Kupwara District on Saturday noon. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that a passenger vehicle turned turtle near the Thali area of Kupwara resulting in the death of an eight year old girl while eight others sustained injuries. The identity of the deceased and the injured could not be confirmed immediately. He injured, however have been rushed to the nearby hospital for treatment.

High Speed Internet Snapped in South Kashmir, Train Services Suspended

December 22 On the directions of the authorities, cellular companies have snapped high speed internet in South Kashmir Districts of Valley. A telecom official told The Kashmiriyat that police directed them to snap high speed 3G and 4G mobile internet services in Islamabad (Anantnag) and Kulgam while high speed mobile internet was barred in Pulwama and Shopian Districts. “The direction was passed shortly after the Tral encounter, the mobile internet speed was reduced to 2G,” he said. Kashmir Shivers Under Cold, Weather Expected to Remain Dry for At least 5 Days

December 22 A severe cold wave swept across the Kashmir Valley and Ladakh region on Saturday as the temperatures dipped to minus 15.8 degrees Celsius at Leh. The 40-day long harsh winter period of Chillai Kalan started on Friday and will continue till January 30, Minimum temperature dropped several degrees below the freezing point. The temperatures recorded across the valley also dropped down. In Srinagar city it was minus 5.4, in Pahalgam minus 7.4 and in Gulmarg minus 6 degrees Celsius. Jammu city was at 3.9, Katra 5.8, Batote 1.3, Bannihal 0.7 and Bhaderwah minus 0.6 degrees Celsius.

Two Militants of Zakir Musa Group Likely Killed in the Ongoing Tral Encounter

December 22 Two Militants have been reportedly killed n the ongoing encounter that raged between militants and Government forces at Arigam area of Arampora in Tral sub district of South Kashmir's Pulwama District. Sources told The Kashmiriyat  that a joint team of 42 RR, SOG, Police and 180 BN of CRPF launched a cordon and search operation at Arigam area on Saturday morning after receiving inputs about presence of some militants in the area.
