August 30 TAWSEEF NAZIR Nazir Ahmed Dar, a resident of Islamabad (Anantnag)  is petrified as the dark clouds of 35A loom over Jammu Kashmir and his son is scheduled to get married the next week. An NGO, "We the Citizens" filed a petition challenging the special status of Jammu Kashmir in the apex court of India and demanded its removal. "We are really hopeful, but apprehensive as to situation may turn volatile anytime, we are very uncertain," Nazir Ahmed told The Kashmiriyat. 2 Militants Killed in Hajin- Operation On

August 30 Two Militants have been killed in the ongoing gunfight in the Parray Mohallah of Hajin in North Kashmir's Bandipora District that began in the wee hours of Thursday morning. Official sources said that the gunfight began after security forces launched a cordon and search operation against unidentified Militants after getting specific information. The Search operation is still on as per reports. Details are awaited.

Father of Riyaz Naikoo, Son of Syed Salahuddin Arrested

August 30 The Jammu Kashmir Police in a nocturnal raid arrested the father of Hizb ul Mujahideen commander Riyaz Naikoo in south Kashmir’s Awantipora area. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that forces raided the house of Riyaz Naikoo at Beighpora Awantipora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district and arrested Assadullah Naikoo, the father of Riyaz during last night. A Police official told that he has been arrested for questioning. Meanwhile the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested the son of Hizb chief Syed Salahuddin during a night raid at his residence in Rambagh area of Srinagar.

Budgam- Youth Thrashes Girl, Tears Apart her clothes, Tries to Molest her

August 29 A 12th class girl was assaulted up by a twenty year old outside the Higher Secondary School Pakherpora in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Wednesday morning. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that a youth identified as Nazim Ahmad Dar, resident of Pakherpora caught hold of a girl student and thrashed her, after which he also tore apart her clothes and made an attempt to molest her. Scores of angry Locals upon witnessing the sight rushed to the spot and rescued the girl and took her to the nearby hospital, however the young boy managed to escape from the spot. The people later spoke to the family of the girl and informed them about the incident, the girl was in an unconscious state in the hospital from where she was shifted to SMHS hospital Srinagar for further treatmen...

Sopore- Police Disallows Civil Society Peaceful Protest in Defense of 35A

August 29 SHABIR KHAN The Jammu Kashmir Police on Tuesday foiled a march organized by Civil Society Sopore called against the attempts to abrogate Article 35 A. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that members of Civil Society Sopore on Wednesday carrying banners and placards assembled outside Dak Bungalow Sopore to protest against the attempts to abrogate Article 35 A,. The Police soon reached the spot and did not allow them to proceed.  Meanwhile chairman of Civil Society Sopore Mohammad Akbar talking with media said that the protest was aimed to warn the government over attempts to abrogate Article 35-A. But unfortunately  additional Deputy Commissioner Sopore issued a Letter to disallow the protest.

Students Protest in Baramulla Against Militant Killings in South Kashmir

August 29 Scores of students from Government Degree College Baramulla on Wednesday staged a protest demonstration outside the college campus against the killing of two Militants in South Kashmir. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that a large number of students shouting pro Freedom and Pro Militancy Slogans gathered outside GDC Baramulla. The protesting also shouted slogans against the attempts to abrogate Article 35 A before they dispersed off on a peaceful note. Two militants including top Hizb commander Altaf Ahmed Dar alias Kaczroo were killed in a gunfight in Muniwar area of South Kashmir's Islamabad (Anantnag) District this morning.

Jammu- Srinagar Highway Blocked Yet again

August 29 The Highway connecting Srinagar with Jammu region has been blocked again due to landslides at Kheri Passi morh in Udhampur on National Highway. Reports reveal that a major landslide happened in the region at around 3 am after which the authorities disallowed vehicular movement on the National Highway. "The clearance operation is on and the road will be opened for the traffic within the next few," officials said. Hundreds of vehicles travelling on either sides have been stranded due to the closure of the highway.

Encounter Breaker and Oldest Hizb Operative Killed- Who was Altaf Kaczroo?

August 29 A resident of Hawoora area of Quimoh belt of Kulgam district in south Kashmir, Altaf Ahmed Dar alias Kaczchroo aged 37 was the oldest operative of Hizb ul Mujahideen in the Kashmir valley. He joined Militant ranks in 2006 and was arrested in August 2007 in a brief encounter with the Government forces. Locals informed The Kashmiriyat that Altaf was living normal life after being released from the custody but got active in November 2012. "He was known as encounter breaker. I have lost count of the number of times he managed to flee from encounter sites, including once in Frisal,” a senior police officer from Kulgam once told a news agency. August 29 Thousands of people including women have gathered outside the house of Altaf Ahmed Dar alias Al Kaczur in hawoora area of Kulgam District on Wednesday as the news of him being killed in the encounter at Muniwar area of Islamabad (Anantnag) has spread in the area. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that men and women in large numbers from nearby areas are marching towards the home of the Hizb Commander shouting pro Freedom and Pro Islam slogans. Altaf Ahmed Dar, an A++ Category is 36 years old and had joined Militant outfit Hizb ul Mujahideen in 2003, he was arrested, but after his release he rejoined the Militant ranks.
