Kashmir Press Photographers Association (KPPA) on Wednesday paid glowing tributes to the senior photojournalists Mushtaq Ali on his 28th death anniversary and Shafa'at Siddiqui on his 9th death anniversary. In a statement issued to the press, KPPA paid tributes to Mushtaq Ali who was killed in a parcel bomb explosion on September 10, 1995, at Press Colony in Srinagar. KPPA also paid tributes to Shafa'at Siddiqui who drowned during the floods that swept Kashmir on September 7, 2014. The association recalled the services rendered by both the photojournalists to the profession of journalism in Kashmir and remembered them on their death anniversaries.

Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh Wednesday said that properties of militants who fled to Pakistan from various parts of Kashmir and Jammu to take shelter there are being attached and the process will continue. “We have a list of terrorists who are natives of J&K and were operating in various parts of the UT but have fled to Pakistan to take refuge there. The Supreme Court of India has imposed a cash penalty on Ladakh administration while dismissing the petition opposing allotment to 'plough' symbol to JKNC in Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council polls. (LAHDC) Ladakh admin had announced the dates for LAHDC polls as September 10 and the dates for filing nominations were closed on August 23, however, the Supreme Court has set aside the order and asked the admin to issue a fresh order on poll dates. The Jammu Kashmir admin on Tuesday handed over the appointment letters to the next of kin of three civilians killed in Shopian in July 2020. The appointment letters were handed over by LG Manoj Sinha on compassionate grounds over to Shareen Akhter, wife of Mohammed Abrar, Mohammed Arif, brother of Mohammed Imtiyaz and Farayaz Ahmed, brother of Mohd Abrar, all residents of Rajouri. The trio was killed in an encounter on July 18, 2020 in the Amshipora area of Shopian. Later, it turned out that the claims of the army that the three slain militants were actually civilians and had been killed in a fake encounter for cash and other rewards. Jammu Kashmir Chief Electoral Officer on Tuesday unveiled draft reservation proposal of 77 urban local bodies in the Union Territory. As per a notification, a copy of which lies with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), CEO J&K unveiled the proposal for reservation of wards for women, schedule castes and schedule tribes in the ULBs. As per the notification, objections and suggestions over the proposal can be filed in next seven days in the office of CEO. The CEO has proposed to reserve 25 wards for women in Srinagar Municipal Corporation and 25 wards for women, 10 for Schedule Castes and two for Scheduled Tribes in Jammu Municipal Corporation. The municipal polls in Jammu Kashmir are likely to be held in October—November this year—(KNO)

Police said that acting on complaints, Kupwara Police busted a fake recruitment scam in the Military Engineering Service (MES) and arrested five accused persons. MES is one of the pillars of Corps of Engineers of Indian Army which provides rear line engineering support to the armed forces. It is one of largest construction and maintenance agencies in India.
