The idea of beautification of Towns in the valley is gaining momentum as the Administration puts emphasis on the redevelopment of pavements, alignment of electric poles, facade enhancement of buildings, the lining of roads, removal of visual pollution, and maintenance of parks. To expedite the process of beautification of Towns, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Vijay Kumar Bidhuri today chaired a meeting of Deputy Commissioners and HoDs of various departments wherein he gave a slew of directions for steps to be taken for a makeover of towns. ‘Hybrid militant’ arrested along with associate in Budgam: Police

Jammu Kashmir Police claimed to have arrested a hybrid militant along with an associate in central Kashmir's Budgam district. Official sources told The Kashmiriyat that on Friday, Police along with 53 RR of the Indian Army arrested a hybrid militant and his associate in the Pakherpora area of Budgam. They identified the hybrid militants as Tanveer Ahmed Bhat son of Ghulam Mohammed Bhat and his associate as Yawer Ahmed Ganie son of Mohammed Maqbool Ganie, both residents of Chrar e Shareef in Budgam. "Arms and ammunition which includes one pistol, a magazine, nine pistol rounds and other material was recovered from the possession of the duo," they said.

Court quashes PSA detention of Moulana Dawoodi and Moulana Veeri

The High Court of Jammu Kashmir quashed the detention of Moulana Abdul Rashid Dawoodi and Moulana Mushtaq Veeri under the Pubic Safety Act on Friday afternoon. The court has directed the officials to release the duo who were detained in September last year and later lodged at Kot Bhalwal jail in Jammu. Justice Sanjay Dhar and Justice Rajnesh Oswal passed the judgement in the cases of the Kashmiri religious clerics and ordered their release from the jail. The students of government higher secondary school Saaj staged a protest at Thanamandi Rajouri against the arrest of a teacher who was arrested over the allegations of sexual harassment. Minor girl sexually assaulted by 32-year-old man in Srinagar

A 32 year old man was arrested for sexually assaulting a minor girl in Parimpora area of central Kashmir's Srinagar district on Thursday night. Officials said Umais Khan (32 years), a resident of Zaldager, Srinagar, arrested for sexual assault on a 13 year old child. In a major decision, the Supreme Court of India harshly criticized the Ladakh administration for disallowing Jammu Kashmir National Conference (NC) to use the plough symbol for the upcoming Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) elections. Noting that the plough symbol was reserved for JKNC by the Election Commission of India because of its status as a recognized state party of the erstwhile State of Jammu Kashmir, the Court held that its demand for the symbol was "legitimate and just". 358 municipal wards reserved for women in Jammu Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Pandurang K Pole has issued a fresh list reserving 358 municipal wards out of 1,119 for women and sought objections and suggestions to it within a week. The list of reserved wards for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and women in open, SC and ST categories have been made on the basis of population data. According to data released by the election department, of the 1,119 wards of 77 municipal bodies in the Union territory, 358 wards have been reserved for women. Teenage girl dies under mysterious conditions in Shopian

Meer Irfan A teenage girl died under mysterious circumstances in the Shopian district of south Kashmir. An official told athe Kashmiriyat that on Thursday morning, a 16-year-old girl (name with held) was found lying unconscious at her home in the Reshinagar area of Shopian district. When her parents spotted her, they rushed her to the nearby hospital for treatment, the official said. Upon reaching the hospital, she was declared critical and shifted to SKIMS soura for advanced treatment. "However, at SKIMS, she lost her battle for life," he said.

ARTO Bandipora blacklists vehicle involved in ‘stunt’ video viral on social media

Assistant Regional Transport officer Bandipora Thursday blacklisted a vehicle that was involved in a stunt incident. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a video went viral on social media platforms where driver of the vehicle was seen standing on top of his car.
