‘May be damaged beyond repair’: Urbanization, encroachment, sewage flow pollute Jhelum

Urbanization, unabated encroachment and flow of sewage are the reasons the river Jhelum is getting polluted, experts said. Jhelum which originates from Veerinag in south Kashmir and traverses through Srinagar before entering into Wular Lake is an important source of irrigation, drinking water and hydropower in the valley. Experts said the heaps of garbage, polythene, plastic and even pipes dropping sewage into the river are a common sight due to which this river has been turned into a big drain of Kashmir. They said the majority of the population here is dependent on Jhelum for drinking water purposes but the pollution of this water body has become a reason for many diseases. Municipal elections in Jammu Kashmir: CEO extends deadline for feedback on reservation proposal

Jammu Kashmir’s chief electoral officer on Friday extended the deadline for filing objections/ suggestions on draft reservation proposals of wards for urban local bodies. The State Investigation Agency has announced a cash reward of rupees 10 Lakh for providing information regarding the killers of Advocate Babar Qadri. The agency issued a statement on Saturday seeking people's help on the killers of Babar Qadri, who was killed in September 2020 in Srinagar. New bypass road from Donipawa to Mir Bazar in Anantnag to be completed by Dec

A new bypass road connecting the National Highway-244 at Donipawa with National Highway-44 at Alstop near Mir Bazar in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district is set to be completed by December this year, a senior official said on Friday. 25-year-old motorcyclist dies in Pulwama road accident

Meer Irfan A 25-year-old motorcyclist died in a road accident in the Kangan area of south Kashmir Pulwama district. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that on Saturday morning, Aijaz Ahmed Bhat son of Khursheed Ahmed Bhat was hit by a tipper bearing the registration number JK13G 1817 at the Kangan area of Pulwama, causing on-the-spot death to the motorcyclist.
