The organizers of the event said that they have been doing this since 2012, ensuring that people with different needs receive help and necessary assistance with special focus on the marriage of underprivileged women. “Initially, we used to get a few brides married off; we would bear the expenses and ensure that they lived happily with their families without feeling any financial burden. IED found, defused in north Kashmir’s Baramulla, Traffic restored

An improvised explosive device (IED) was found in Hanjivera Pattan area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district on Monday. Official sources told news agency Kashmir Scroll that the IED was detected by the police and army. They said bomb disposal squad teams of the Army and police reached at the spot and destroyed it safely. An official told Kashmir Scroll also confirmed that the IED was defused after being recovered by a joint party. He added that traffic that was halted is being restored.(KS)

Kulgam: Missing father-son duo recovered, says Police

The Jammu Kashmir Police on Sunday recovered a father and son duo who are missing from their home in Kulgam. The Kashmiriyat reported on Sunday that Bashir Ahmad Mir, a PDD inspector, and his son Zubair Bashir Mir, a 22-year-old student has gone missing from their home in Turigam area of Kulgam on Saturday afternoon. Following this, a Police team was formed to investigate the matter. The team conducted searches in the area and eventually found the missing persons.

Army trooper found dead in north Kashmir

An army man was found dead under suspicious condition in the north Kashmir Baramulla district on Sunday. Official sources told news agency Kashmir Scroll that one Avinash Kumar resident of Bihar jawan of Sepoy rank was posted in the army Unit at 618 EME infantry division. Police seize property of ‘notorious’ drug peddler in Bandipora

Police on Sunday froze the property of a notorious drug smuggler couple under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in Jammu Kashmir’s Bandipora district. The property worth Rs 56.60 lakh belonging to two notorious drug smugglers identified as Khursheed Ahmad Waza and his wife Posha Begum, a resident of Ward No. 5 Bandipora, was frozen, Police said. "Freezed u/s 68F(2) of NDPS Act by the Competent Authority & Admin, SAFEM (New Delhi)", police said. "All these assets were illegally acquired through the sale of narcotic drugs," police said, adding that the duo is presently booked under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic (PIT) in the NDPS Act and lodged at Kot Balwal Jammu and Central Jail Srinagar.

Jammu Kashmir records 31% reduction in fire incidents this year

AAdditional Director General of Police (ADGP) Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES), Alok Kumar on Saturday said that the fire incidents across Jammu Kashmir have reduced by 31 per cent this year. “Against 59000 fire incidents last year, J&K has recorded only 4000 incidents this year, which is 31 per cent reduction in such cases in the past one year,” Kumar said, adding that the figure is from August 2022-July 2023. He added that the reduction in the fire incidents is the outcome of 28000 fire awareness events organized by F&ES at multiple places across J&K.
