The Jammu Kashmir Police on Wednesday attached a house for allegedly harbouring militants in Khrew area in outskirts of Srinagar city. The house belongs to Ghulam Ahmad Najar, a resident of Danik Mohalla Khrew in Srinagar, whose son is said to have been harbouring militants, as per the Police statement. “On 19/20 August 2021, Police in Awantipora received an information through reliable sources regarding presence of a group of (militants) in the house of Ghulam Ahmad Najar son of Ghulam Mohammad Najar of Danak Mohala Khrew who are conspiring to carry out (militant) act in the area,” Police said in a statement issued to the press. Encounter breaks out in Shopian area

Meer Irfan An encounter broke out between militants and government forces in the Wathoo Shirmal area of south Kashmir's Shopian district. Officials told The Kashmiriyat that a joint team of Government forces including the Indian Army, Jammu Kashmir Police following an input about militant movement laid a cordon and search operation in Shopian's Shermal area. During the cordon and search operation, he said, the forces came under heavy fire from militants, to which the forces responded. The entry and exit points of the encounter site have been sealed and an intermittent exchange of gunfire has begun, locals told the Kashmiriyat.

Drug menace on rise; 117 peddlers arrested, 15 booked under PSA this year in Budgam

A police spokesperson in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that during the current year, Budgam Police registered 66 FIRs under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act in which 117 persons have been arrested and 15 vehicles seized. “Among them, 15 notorious drug peddlers have been detained under Public Safety Act (PSA),” he said, adding that sustained efforts are being taken to eradicate the menace of drugs from the district. Unidentified body recovered near Srinagar’s Budshah bridge

An unidentified body was recovered on the banks of river Jhelum near Budshah bridge in Lalchowk area of Srinagar last evening, reports said here in Wednesday. 180 militants, 31 troopers, 31 civilians killed in J-K in ongoing year: MHA

A total of 123 militancy-related incidents have been reported from Jammu Kashmir in the ongoing year till November end, the Ministry of Home Affairs told the upper house of the Indian parliament. According to the official data accessed by The Kashmiriyat, 31 Government force personnel and 31 civilians have been killed during this period in militancy-related incidents. A total of 180 militants have been killed during various anti-militancy operations in the region, the data revealed. Kashmir may witness snowfall on Dec 9 and 10: MeT

Parts of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh are expected to witness a snowfall from Thursday to Sunday (December 8-11), the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted. The IMD said moderate rain and snowfall may occur in parts of Kashmir, Jammu, and Ladakh. It said that fresh snowfall may b triggered by a fresh western disturbance. Woman killed by husband in Handwara, alleges family

A Family of a woman from Dorus village of Lolab in north Kashmir's Kupwara district on Wednesday accused the in-laws of their daughter's murder in Zachaldara area of Handwara. "Yesterday late last night, my sister my Uzma (23), was brutality thrashed by her in-laws including her husband and left her critically injured following which she was referred to SKIMS hospital Srinagar where she succumbed," brother of deceased told the Kashmir news Service (KNS). Residential house gutted in Ganderbal fire incident

Shah Basit A residential house was damaged in a massive fire incident in the Umar Colony area of central Kashmir's Ganderbal district. An official told The Kashmiriyat that during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday flames emerged from a residential house situated in the Umar Colony Shalbugh area of Ganderbal. "Soon after the incident fire tenders rushed to the spot to douse off the flames with the help of locals, however, one house was damaged during the fire incident," he said. Another earthquake hits Jammu Kashmir

An earthquake of magnitude 3.0 on the Richter scale was reported from the Kathua district on Wednesday morning, according to the meteorological department. While no loss of life or damage to property was reported, the earthquake struck at 9:15 a.m. at a depth of 10 km from the surface. Its coordinates are latitude 32.71 degrees and longitude 75.65 degrees, the officials said.
