Driver Killed in Anantnag Road Mishap

Driver of a vehicle was killed in a fatal road mishap at Larnoo area in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday evening. Reports reaching GNS said that a vehicle driven by one Ghulam Rasool Deka son of Sonuallaha Deka, resident of Dessu Daksum met with an accident at Gawran in Larnoo, resulting in critical injuries to the driver. The driver was taken to a nearby health facility from where he was referred to GMC Anantnag, however he succumbed on way to the hospital. Confirming it, a police official told GNS that they have taken cognizance of the incident. (GNS)

Man ends life in Police lock-up in Rajouri

A man committed suicide by hanging himself inside a police lock-up in Rajouri district on Friday morning, official sources said. Identifying him as Abdul Majid of Parghal Darhal, they told GNS the individual was in custody on a police remand. Confirming it, SSP Rajouri Mohammad Aslam told GNS that an investigation has been launched to collect necessary details into the incident. “Once the things become clear, we will share them accordingly”, he further said. Chunni Devi, 75, wife of Chunni Lal Kanna, as learnt by GNS, died of prolonged illness on Thursday night. Soon after news about the death broke, locals of the area flocked to the residence of ‘Chunni Ji’. After consoling the bereaved family overnight, the members of Muslim community this morning arranged wood and carried the body to crematorium besides performing other necessary rituals – in accordance with Hindu religion. Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar said that once again its head and Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir, Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq, who continues to be under house detention for the last more than three years since August 2019, was not allowed to leave his house to offer Friday prayers and hold majlis-e- waz at Jamia Masjid. The Anjuman in a statement said that additional forces and police had been deployed around Mirwaiz Manzil Nigeen, the residence of Mirwaiz since Friday morning. The Anjuman reminded the authorities to stand up to the statement of Lt Governor Mr. Manoj Sinha that Mirwaiz is free and can go anywhere. Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid said that people are waiting for the LG’s statement to be executed on the ground, as they are early awaiting his release from house detention. (KNT)

Father of 17-day-old girl dies while playing cricket in Anantnag

Sahil Gulzar A 22-year-old young man, famous for his batting skills, died after suffering a cardiac arrest while playing cricket at a local playground in the Jablipora area of south Kashmir's Anantnag district on Friday afternoon. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that a cricket match was being played at a cricket ground in Jablipora area of Anantnag when a 22-year-old cricketer suddenly collapsed and started vomiting after finishing the first two overs of his spell went to his field position. Imtiyaz was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment where he was declared dead on arrival. Zubair Ahmed Wani,17, son of Mohammed Maqbool Wani, a resident of Dumpora in Shopian has been missing from his home since last Friday, his family members told The Kashmiriyat. A female student of government school fainted during class hours due to the alleged negligence of a teacher in the Mirgund area of Pattan Baramulla.
