An encounter broke out between security forces and militants in Hardumir Tral area of South Kashmir's Pulwama district, officials said on Saturday An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a joint of team of police, Army and CRPF after receiving information about the presence of militants launched search operation in the area. He said that as the joint team of forces intensified searches towards suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the party, which was retaliated, thus triggering an encounter. In a statement to GNS, the Police said that based on a specific input provided by police regarding presence of a militant in village Mominhall Aarwani area of Bijbehara Anantnag, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, Army's 01RR and 90Bn CRPF in the said area. According to police during the search operation, as the presence of the trapped militant got ascertained, he was given ample opportunities to surrender. Inspectors General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar on Friday visited family of late ASI Mohd Ashraf Dar at Awantipora in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district. Dar was killed in a militant attack couple of days ago at Bijbhera in Anantnag district of South Kashmir. Accompanied by other Police officers, the IGP offered condolences to the family and assured them all help from the police department. Security forces on Thursday claimed to have averted a major tragedy by defusing an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district. Official sources told (KDC) that an IED weighed approx 5 Kgs was detected by 50 RR, 183 Battalion of CRPF and SOG near Graveyard of village Wanpora in Pulwama, which was later destroyed by the bomb disposal squad. A Police officer confirmed to KDC that an IED was recovered and later destroyed. A case under relevant sections of law is being registered in this regard and further investigation is on, he added. At least sixteen sheep were mauled to death even as over half a dozen were left injured by a leopard in Ashmuqam Nowgam last night. The owner of the sheep Ghulam Mohiuddin Mir told GNS that a leopard barged inside his built shed at around 3 AM. “On hearing the noise I tried to save the sheep but the leopard even made bids on me”, Mir said adding he barely escaped the attack of the ferocious animal. “Once the leopard left, I counted 16 sheep dead and seven others severely injured”, Mir said. Urging the authorities to compensate him for the loss, Mir said he had taken loan to raise the farm. “I hope the authorities will come here to see for themselves what havoc the leopard had wrecked and compensate me accordingly”, Mir further said.
