Beseeching the police to arrest the accused persons for ‘murdering’ their daughter, a family from North Kashmir’s Bandipora district Thursday said the husband and in-laws of their deceased daughter are trying to portray ‘murder’ as ‘suicide. “Let us assume for a moment, that my sister as per the police, committed suicide. Presence of a 'man-eater' bear has created widespread fear psychois in Mawar belt of Handwara in north Kashmir's Kupwara district. A group of locals told GNS that there have been several incidents of bear attack recently which resulted in the death and injuries to several others. An Islamic clerk was stabbed by his followers on Tuesday evening in central Kashmir's Budgam district officials said. Official sources revealed to Kashmir Scroll that the victim, identified as Ab Azi Parray, son of Mohd Ismail Parray from Parray Angan, Ompora, Budgam, was attacked by his own followers at his residence. A Renowned Kashmiri political activist passed away at his residence in Srinagar. Family members told The Kashmiriyat that Nisar Hussain Rather, a resident of Bemina in Srinagar passed away after a brief spell of illness this morning. He was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard in Srinagar and the funeral prayers were attended by hundreds of people including prominent personalities. The deceased was a close associate of Itehad ul Muslimeen, one of the major Constituents of the Muslim United Front that contested the rigged elections of 1987. His death has been widely condoled by various sections of the society.

Jammu Kashmir Police claimed to have arrested a rape accused within hours after a minor girl filed a complaint in Baramulla. In a statement, Baramulla Police said, Police Station Baramulla received a written complaint from one minor girl (name withheld) stating therein that she was abducted by one person and raped at a secluded place in Sangri. “On this written complaint case FIR was registered in Police Station Baramulla under relevant sections of the law,” reads the statement. The accused was identified in the complaint as Mohammad Umar Parray (Venture Driver) S/O Mohammad Amin Parray R/O Parray Mohalla Sangri. The Indian Army on Tuesday denied  reports carried by sections of Indian media claiming that a "surgical strike" was carried out across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu Kashmir by the Army on Monday (21 August). A report by Dainik Jagran on Tuesday (22 August) claimed that the Indian Army again conducted a surgical strike across the LoC in JK on Monday night. According to the report, the Indian soldiers crossed the LoC and entered the Pakistan from somewhere in between Rajouri and Poonch areas of J&K. The Indian troops reportedly destroyed four active militant launching pads in Nakyal area of Kotli in Pakistan.
