Residents of Tengpora Noorbagh in Srinagar on Saturday said they are facing acute drinking water shortage for more than two months. Speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), they said the authorities have not responded to their pleas so far. "We have no potable water and the supply is very low. Sometimes there is no water in the day and supply returns at around 1:00 to 1:50 am. We are being forced to wake up at night to collect the water," said a local Ayoub Lone. Leaders of the Jammu Kashmir Awami Tehreek (JKAT) staged a protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi and demanded the closure of newly opened wine shops and fast trials for detained journalists. Presence of a 'man-eater' bear has created widespread fear psychois in Mawar belt of Handwara in north Kashmir's Kupwara district. A group of locals told GNS that there have been several incidents of bear attack recently which resulted in the death and injuries to several others. Prominent activist Nisar Hussain passes away in Srinagar

A Renowned Kashmiri political activist passed away at his residence in Srinagar. Family members told The Kashmiriyat that Nisar Hussain Rather, a resident of Bemina in Srinagar passed away after a brief spell of illness this morning. He was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard in Srinagar and the funeral prayers were attended by hundreds of people including prominent personalities. The deceased was a close associate of Itehad ul Muslimeen, one of the major Constituents of the Muslim United Front that contested the rigged elections of 1987. His death has been widely condoled by various sections of the society.

Police arrests rape accused in Baramulla

Jammu Kashmir Police claimed to have arrested a rape accused within hours after a minor girl filed a complaint in Baramulla. In a statement, Baramulla Police said, Police Station Baramulla received a written complaint from one minor girl (name withheld) stating therein that she was abducted by one person and raped at a secluded place in Sangri. “On this written complaint case FIR was registered in Police Station Baramulla under relevant sections of the law,” reads the statement. ‘No surgical strike conducted anywhere’, Indian Army denies reports

The Indian Army on Tuesday denied  reports carried by sections of Indian media claiming that a "surgical strike" was carried out across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu Kashmir by the Army on Monday (21 August). A report by Dainik Jagran on Tuesday (22 August) claimed that the Indian Army again conducted a surgical strike across the LoC in JK on Monday night. According to the report, the Indian soldiers crossed the LoC and entered the Pakistan from somewhere in between Rajouri and Poonch areas of J&K.
