Prominent activist Nisar Hussain passes away in Srinagar

A Renowned Kashmiri political activist passed away at his residence in Srinagar. Family members told The Kashmiriyat that Nisar Hussain Rather, a resident of Bemina in Srinagar passed away after a brief spell of illness this morning. He was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard in Srinagar and the funeral prayers were attended by hundreds of people including prominent personalities. The deceased was a close associate of Itehad ul Muslimeen, one of the major Constituents of the Muslim United Front that contested the rigged elections of 1987. His death has been widely condoled by various sections of the society.

In a statement, Baramulla Police said, Police Station Baramulla received a written complaint from one minor girl (name withheld) stating therein that she was abducted by one person and raped at a secluded place in Sangri. “On this written complaint case FIR was registered in Police Station Baramulla under relevant sections of the law,” reads the statement. The Indian Army on Tuesday denied  reports carried by sections of Indian media claiming that a "surgical strike" was carried out across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu Kashmir by the Army on Monday (21 August). A report by Dainik Jagran on Tuesday (22 August) claimed that the Indian Army again conducted a surgical strike across the LoC in JK on Monday night. According to the report, the Indian soldiers crossed the LoC and entered the Pakistan from somewhere in between Rajouri and Poonch areas of J&K. The Indian troops reportedly destroyed four active militant launching pads in Nakyal area of Kotli in Pakistan. A top police officer told that as the searches were resumed this morning at the encounter site, no militant was found as even drone service was used. 9 army troopers dead, several injured in Ladakh road accident

Nine army men were killed after their truck skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in Leh district of Ladakh on Saturday, ANI reported. One more official was injured, as per the report Those deceased include eight soldiers and one Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO). As per the report, the truck was moving from Karu garrison to Kyari near Leh when it fell into the gorge. The truck was a part of the a troop including an SUV and an ambulance with a total of 34 personnel. The three vehicles were a part of a reccee party.

A 40-year-old man who went missing around seven days ago in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district was traced out by the police on Saturday. Police officials told that the man identified as Mohammad Ashraf Bhat (40), a resident of Zangalpora, Kulgam went missing after leaving his home to purchase gold for his marriage. The High Court of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh quashed the Public Safety Act (PSA) of four valley residents. Reports reaching The Kashmiriyat said that the court has ordered the authorities to release the four immediately. The four detainees have been identified as Manzoor Ahmed Ganie of Kulgam, Faizan Aijaz Mir of Srinagar, Aqib Bashir Wagay of Shopian; and Mukhtiyar Ahmad Bhat of Anantnag.
