Encounter Starts in Pulwama

January 31 An Encounter started between militants and Government forces at Drubgam area of of South Kashmir’s Pulwama District on Thursday night. Officials told The Kashmiriyat that 55 RR of Indian Army, CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police were fired upon by Militants during a cordon and search operation in the area. Immediately the troops cordoned off the area and the hiding Militants opened fire on the troopers triggering an encounter. As per initial reports available to The Kashmiriyat two to three militants are trapped in a residential house in the area. An exchange of fire was going on when this report being filed. Meanwhile Mobile Internet services have been barred in Shopian and Pulwama districts.

Nocturnal CASO Launched in Pulwama Area

January 28 A cordon and search operation has been launched by Government Forces in Pulwama District of South Kashmir. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that on Monday, the 55 RR of Indian Army and Jammu Kashmir Police jointly launched a search operation in Prichal Area of South Kashmir's Pulwama District. Meanwhile a police official has denied the report and said no CASO is in place in the area.

Civilian Shot at in Tral

January 28 Unknown gunmen on Monday shot a civilian in Tral area of South Kashmir. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that unknown gunmen shot at a guard of Jammu Kashmir Bank  in Abighar area of Tral on Monday afternoon. The injured man was rushed to SDH Tral where he is being treated, He has been identified as Tariq Ahmed, a resident of Reshipora Tral. Details emerging.

January 23 A cordon and search operation has been launched in Tral area of South Kashmir's Pulwama District. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that 42 RR of Indian Army, CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police launched a CASO in Nagbal area of Tral. Following a specific input about Militant movement in the area, Forces sealed entry and exit points to the area. Details emerging.

Shutdown and a Day of Funerals in Shopian, Pulwama

January 23 The Pulwama and Shopian Districts of Southern part has shut down to mourn the Killing of six Militants during two separate encounter with Government Forces. The Pulwama, Shopian districts have shut spontaneously as the news of the killings spread in the area on Tuesday. The Kashmiriyat was informed that traffic is off the roads, while business establishments are shut in the area on Wednesday for the second consecutive day. The authorities have also suspended classwork in educational institutes. Thousands of people have gathered for the funerals of Slain Militants and civilians in the Pulwama and Shopian Districts of South Kashmir. Taranas (Pro Freedom Songs) are being played in most of the mosques of the district on Loudspeakers.

Drug Peddler Arrested in Awantipora

January 22 Skinder Gull The Jammu Kashmir Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested a drug peddler in Awantipora area of South Kashmir. A police official told The Kashmiriyat that a police party of Police Post Reshipora headed by DO Reshipora Abdul Rehman  intercepted a person  during checking. During  naka checking at Panzgam, 72 bottles of Codeine phosphate were recovered from a bag, which he was carrying. He has been identified as Bilal Ahmad Dar a resident of Dogripora in Pulwama. Case registered, investigation taken up.

January 18 Following a specific input about Militant movement, the Government Forces jointly launched a cordon and search operation in the Tral area of  South Kashmir's Pulwama District. January 13 Intense clashes have erupted in Sugan area of South Kashmir's Shopian district on Sunday morning. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that hundreds of people marching towards the funeral of slain Militant commander, Zeenat ul Islam hurled stones on Forces near Dragad area of Shopian.
