January 08 A cordon and search operation has been launched by Government Forces in Shopian District of South Kashmir. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that 44RR of Indian Army and Jammu Kashmir Police jointly launched a search operation in Tukroo area of Shopain. Following inputs about Militant movement in the area, the forces on Tuesday night blocked all the entry and exit points of the area. January 06 Jahangeer Ganie The residents of Sugan area in South Kashmir's Shopian district have turned to the primitive forms of lighting as electricity has gone missing from the area for the past eight days. Speaking to The Kashmiriyat a resident of Ustadpora in Sugan said that the transformer in the area has gone defunct and the Power development department despite several requests to repair the transformer has not reached the village. "Kerosene lamps and gas lights are what these people use to illuminate our homes as authorities are unmoved towards our long pending basic demand," a local told The Kashmiriyat. January 04 Snowfall has started in the Shopian District in South Kashmir on Friday afternoon, whilst other districts in Kashmir are still awaiting  fresh snowfall. The MET Department of Jammu Kashmir has predicted moderate to heavy snowfall in plains of the Kashmir valley for the next 72 hours. "Snowfall has come at a right time and people are enjoying it, the crops, the rivers need the snowfall at this point of time," Abdul Rashid, a farmer from Shopian said.

January 03 Government forces achieved major success in Jammu Kashmir in 2018 as they eliminated top militant commanders including Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Naveed Jatt and also 260 ultras but nearly 100 soldiers had to lay down their lives in the line of duty. December 29 A cordon and search operation has been launched at Ustad Mohalla in Sugan area of South Kashmir's Shopian District late on Saturday evening. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that 44 RR of Indian Army, CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police launched a massive door to door search operation in the area. Following an input about Militant movement in the area, the forces blocked all the entry and exit points of the area. December 22 Continuous shutdowns and snapping of internet in south Kashmir districts has paralysed life in the Pulwama and Shopian districts as thousands of students are suffering especially due to snapped internet.
