Shopian rejoices as Snowfall Starts in the District

January 04 Snowfall has started in the Shopian District in South Kashmir on Friday afternoon, whilst other districts in Kashmir are still awaiting  fresh snowfall. The MET Department of Jammu Kashmir has predicted moderate to heavy snowfall in plains of the Kashmir valley for the next 72 hours. "Snowfall has come at a right time and people are enjoying it, the crops, the rivers need the snowfall at this point of time," Abdul Rashid, a farmer from Shopian said.

January 03 Government forces achieved major success in Jammu Kashmir in 2018 as they eliminated top militant commanders including Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Naveed Jatt and also 260 ultras but nearly 100 soldiers had to lay down their lives in the line of duty. The number of militants killed in 2018 was around 260 which is higher than 2017 and the highest in a single year in the last eight years, officials said. At least 1700 Militants have been killed in Kashmir since 2010, In 2010, as many as 270 militants were killed in action by government forces in Jammu Kashmir. The number reduced to 119 in 2011. December 29 A cordon and search operation has been launched at Ustad Mohalla in Sugan area of South Kashmir's Shopian District late on Saturday evening. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that 44 RR of Indian Army, CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police launched a massive door to door search operation in the area. Following an input about Militant movement in the area, the forces blocked all the entry and exit points of the area.
