Militancy saw a rise in local recruits after the summer uprising of 2010 failed, the youth who picked up guns during that period included Burhan Wani, Majid Zarger, Dawood Sheikh, Ayatullah Khumani. Reports estimate that as many as 500 local youth have become militants out of whom the majority have come from South Kashmir. A report by Indian agencies has spotlighted the spread of the militancy that was quelled in 2010, but surged after the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani on July 8, 2016. Our Editor, Qazi Shibli was arrested on 28th of July, 2019. The Kashmiriyat Team members got a call the police station on 28th of July and we were asked to visit the police station for some sort of questioning. While, the other members of the team were asked to leave as the day ended, Qazi Shibli was asked to stay back for further questioning. And then he was detained for at least 7-8 days. The Kashmiriyat tried to confirm the “Reason for his Detainment” but we got NO answer. Highway Ban to Stay- Supreme Court Dismisses Plea Challenging Kashmir Highway Ban

May 06 The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a plea challenging the Jammu Kashmir government’s order restricting civilian traffic for two days in a week on a stretch of the national highway from Udhampur to Baramulla for the movement of security forces. According to PTI the Counsel for the Jammu Kashmir government told the bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Deepak Gupta that the order restricting traffic on the national highway was taken due to the ongoing election and will remain in force till May 31. The bench, after hearing the submissions, said, “We are not inclined to keep this petition pending.

April 24 After receiving several complaints regarding inflated prices and contaminated fluids, Abdul Majeed Mehrab, the Medical Superintendent of District hospital in South Kashmir’s premier hospital in Islamabad (anantnag) township ordered the closure of Co-operative Fair Price shops located within the premises of the hospital. The officer has also written to Director Health Services Kashmir and District Development commissioner urging them to ensure the supply of best fluids to the hospital. April 15 A 2- Minute Video has appeared on the Social media platforms alleging that it is a video shot in Shopian district where the body of a slain Militant is being trashed by Forces on a street. This two Minute video in which the body of a slain Militant is being carried on a four wheeler shows dozens of Force personnel assaulting the body of a slain Militant and one of the person carrying the body is also being thrashed. April 08 Kashmir's Largest Circulated English Newspaper on Monday said that its Jammu bureau received several calls from an unidentified caller who threatened to shoot down the entire staff of the publication.
