JK Bank Employees Protest Against SAC

November 29 The Employees of  Jammu Kashmir Bank on Thursday staged a protest in Srinagar demanding roll back of state administrative council’s (SAC) decision to turn the bank into a public sector undertaking (PSU). The call for protests was issued by All India J&K Bank officers Federation on Wednesday. Dozens of employees assembled at the corporate headquarters of the bank on MA road in Srinagar and staged a protest demonstration.

Naveed Jutt Killing, Protests Erupt in IUST, Bemina Degree College

November 27 Scores of students of Islamic University of Science and Technology and Government Degree College Bemina staged a protest demonstration against the killing of slain Lashkar commander Naveed Jatt in Budgam on Wednesday. Eyewitnesses told The Kashmiriyat that students raised pro-independence and anti-India slogans and marched through the campus of Islamic University. In Srinagar's Bemina Degree College, The students also pelted stones on the forces. However, the witnesses said, the government forces did not retaliate to the protesting students. Meanwhile, reports said that as the news about the killing of top militant commander Naveed Jatt reached Pampore, the shopkeepers downed their shutters.

406 People Killed in Kashmir in 2018

November 25 With the killing of six militants on Sunday in south Kashmir’s Shopian district the death toll for the year reached 406 which is the highest in a decade. So far this year, 406 people have been killed in Kashmir, and more than half of whom were militants, The number of deaths in violence in Kashmir had dropped to 99 in 2012 but has since been climbing. According to the report Kashmir has witnessed a spike in violence since Prime Minister Narendra Modi took power in 2014. Analysts say the hardline policies adopted by the Hindu nationalist government may further worsen the situation. Adding that government forces have stepped up an offensive against militants operating inside the Kashmir Valley as well as those trying to intrude from across the border with Pakistan.

Foggy Morning in Kashmir Valley reduces Visibility

November 23 The Kashmir Valley woke up to a foggy morning  on Friday, leading to poor visibility and affected road traffic in most parts of the Kashmir. Srinagar, the summer capital of the state and many parts of the Valley witnessed dense fog in the morning. It led to traffic jam as motorists drove cautiously due to poor visibility. The Meteorological Department here said the fog was a result of sudden dip in the temperatures and condensation of water droplets in the atmosphere. “This is a normal phenomenon during time of the season,” said a weather office official.

Mobile Internet Suspended in South Kashmir Districts

November 20 Mobile Internet has been suspended in Pulwama, Shopian Districts of South Kashmir following an encounter that raged in the Nadigam area of Shopian District. Locals informed The Kashmiriyat that mobile internet including 2G,3G and 4G has been barred in Pulwama and Shopian as the encounter raged in the area. Weather Likely to Improve from today

November 15 The weather is likely to improve in Jammu Kashmir from today after a fresh snowfall in the higher reaches in the last 24 hours. The officials of MeT said that they are expecting weather to remain dry till November 21. The minimum temperature dropped to a minus 6.8 degrees Celsius in Kargil, while Leh recorded a minus 2.8 degrees Celsius. Masrat Alam Booked Under 37th PSA

November 14 The incarcerated Hurriyat Leader Masarat Alam Bhat was on Wednesday shifted to Hira Nagar jail Jammu after authorities booked him under the fresh Public Safety Act (PSA). The fresh orders, incidentally 37th in the series, were passed Wednesday morning by the Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla, a spokesperson of his party Muslim League said. After being slapped with 37th PSA, which is a world record, Masarat Alam was shifted to Hira Nagar Jail in Jammu, Ayoubi said. Masarat Alam, who spearheaded the 2010 agitation, was arrested in October same year, he was released in 2015, however rearrested shortly.

JRL Calls For Complete Shutdown on November 17

November 14 The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) has called for a complete shutdown across Kashmir on November 17 against the panchayat polls. The JRL comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik urged people to observe shutdown against the Polls being conducted on the 17 November. The leadership asked the people to reject and boycott the Panchayat polls in the same way they rejected the Urban Local Bodies polls by staying indoors.

MET Department Predicts Snowfall, Rain for the Next three Days

November 11 The state’s meteorological department has predicted light to moderate  rain and snowfall for the next three days across Kashmir. However, the minimum temperatures in the state have increased and there are chances of rain, snow in Kashmir from November 12, to 14, the MeT department said. Earlier on November 3, the state witnessed heavy snowfall. Meanwhile, the night temperature in Srinagar was recorded 3.2  degrees Celsius, Pahalgam recorded 0.7 and Gulmarg minus 3.5 degrees. Leh town recorded minus 1.3 and Kargil 6.6 as the night’s lowest. In the Jammu region, Katra recorded 12.4 degrees Celsius, Batote 7.6, Bannihal 4.6 and Bhaderwah 4.3.
