Beijing has banned two Australian academics from entering China.
Professor Clive Hamilton and Alex Joske would be refused entry in accordance with the Entry and Exit Law of the People’s Republic of China.
It comes after Australia cancelled the visas of two Chinese academics.
Hamilton said he had not sought a visa to travel to China, and that he believed the decision to deny him and Joske entry to the country was linked to Canberra’s tensions with Beijing.
“It seems to be Beijing’s way of saying, ‘Well, if you’re going to do it, we’ll do it too.’ It’s a pretty petty response.” said Hamilton.
