The residents of Chirpora village in South Kashmir’s Anantnag are up in arms against the Jal Shakti department for failing to provide drinking water in the area.
The people of Gujjar Basti, Chirpura, Shangus area of Anantnag, talking with news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that they have been facing shortage of drinking water for decades but no attention is being given towards the issue.
Locals said that a water tank was constructed 10 years ago in the area but till date the village hasn’t got piped water supply.
They said that the village has been deprived of the water despite it being just half a kilometer away from the water tank from which other villages are getting supply.
“Since decades the village has suffered in absence of water and despite bringing this issue to the notice of concerned authorities several times nothing has been done on the ground,” they said.
Locals accused the PHE department that despite knowing their problems they are giving deaf ear to their repeated pleas.
They urged LG Administration and district administration Anantnag to look into the matter and resolve their issue at earliest
On contacting concerned AEE, Zameer Ahmad said that they have already sent a proposal of project to ensure water supply to the area, however, it is yet to be approved
“Till the project is approved, water tankers are being sent to the village to provide them water on a temporary basis till permanent arrangements are being made,” he said—(KNO)
